Magic at sea: why magic on cruise ships captivates every audience

On 30 October 2026, AIDAbella was docked in A Coruña, midway through her voyage from Kiel to the Caribbean. That evening, mentalist and magician Felix Gauger took to the stage in the Theatrium twice, at short notice. Anyone who missed the shows could watch the rerun on the ship's TV. The voyage takes guests from Kiel to Barbados in 21 nights, with 10 days at sea.
On a cruise ship, grandparents, couples, families and groups of friends sit in the same theatre. An act on board has to reach all of them at once. Magic can do that because it needs no shared language, no prior knowledge and no particular age: astonishment works on everyone.
Felix Gauger's show is built for exactly this. He invites guests on stage, plays with humour and lets the audience think and guess along. Rather than pure sleight of hand, guests experience moments that happen in their own minds. When thoughts seem to be read and predictions come true, grandfather and granddaughter are equally amazed.
For Felix Gauger, the focus is not the trick but the guests' evening. Every effect has its own music, with lighting and staging matched to it. On board, LED content for the large stage wall is added.
The best feedback often comes from people who never wanted to come. After the show, many guests admit that they "don't really care for magic". Afterwards they have laughed a lot and noticed how quickly the time flew by. Reaching exactly these sceptics is what he aims for.
The last-minute engagement on AIDAbella shows what sets his show apart: it is ready to go at short notice. Felix Gauger needs no elaborate set and no long setup time. A headset, a handheld microphone and his music are all it takes. His show adapts to the stage, whether a ship's theatre, a club stage, a marquee or a company canteen.
That is why the German magic champion has long performed internationally. He is a regular guest artist on ships of the AIDA fleet and also performs on river cruises. Since 2023 he has been part of the artist line-up for the Aldiana party weeks, from the Austrian Alps to Andalusia, Fuerteventura and Djerba. He is also booked abroad for corporate events and weddings, including on Mallorca.
Right now, Felix Gauger is back at sea: as a guest artist aboard AIDAperla on the leg from Hamburg to Gran Canaria. In 2027 he returns in March aboard AIDAluna between Madeira and Hamburg, and in August aboard AIDAcosma in the Mediterranean. All dates are listed on the dates page.
A heartfelt thank you to the audience in the Theatrium and to the AIDAbella crew. The entertainment, technical and stage teams made this last-minute engagement possible. We wish all guests a smooth crossing and a wonderful time in the Caribbean.
